Countdown To Zero (2010)

Directed By:

Summing It Up:
Excellent documentary about the history of nuclear weapons and why we need to call for disarmament.

Quick Thoughts:
I love a good documentary, and for whatever reason, I have found myself watching more and more  of those based around WWII during the last year or so. To be more specific, I have been fascinated with the history, and resulting fallout, from the nuclear weapons that were developed during that war. This film does not cover the war, but instead, it looks at the development and spread of nuclear arms; beginning with the events that led to the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings and carrying into present day.

Personally, this film solidified my view that the nuclear problem is something that, though not as talked about as it has been in past years, will probably come back to bite us in the ass somewhere down the line. I learned quite a bit about the proliferation of nuclear weapons and how the various countries that have them came to develop the bombs. There's also a lot of detail on how poorly they are guarded, how easily they can be obtained, and how accident-prone the monitoring and launch systems really can be. Pretty scary stuff when you think about it.

In my opinion, this is a must-watch for anyone interested in the subject. Even if you just have a general interest in documentaries, I think you'll find something to take away from this. Great execution and educational value.

Verdict:

4 out of 5
