Chaos Theory

Directed By:
Marcos Siega

Summing It Up:
An obsessively organized man, who makes a living teaching others how to be efficient, has his world turned upside-down when his wife turns his clock back, causing him to be late to catch his ferry

Quick Thoughts:
This one was a late-night spontaneous pick on Netflix Instant. In a way, I suppose that it serves as proof that I will watch pretty much anything that Ryan Reynolds is in. That's not to say that it's a bad film or anything; it's just not the kind of movie that I would usually choose.

I was hoping for a light comedy, but instead, Chaos Theory turned out to be a Romantic Dramedy of sorts. It had it's moments where it was funny, but there was definitely a heavy dose of "take a look at you life" thrown in there as well. Still, I must admit that, in the end, it was still enjoyable.

Admittedly, part of the reason that I liked it is because Reynolds is one of those actors who can really carry a movie regardless of its subject matter. It also helps that the comedy that was on display here had a darker undertone to it. Jokes about suicide, baby abandonment, etc are here for the taking, but they also come with some serious thoughts on relationships and family. Oh yeah, and Sarah Chalke (from Scrubs) walks around in her underwear for a bit, which is definitely not an unwelcome viewing experience.

When all is said and done, Chaos Theory accomplishes what it sets out to do. What's more, if you are looking for something to watch with the wife/girlfriend that is more intelligent than the latest piece of Rom-Com fluff that is being hawked at the time, this is a good choice.
